About Our School

School context from 2022 Annual Report

Jeparit Primary School (JPS) established in 1883, is located in the Wimmera region, approximately four hours drive from Melbourne. The school grounds back onto native bushland alongside the famous and culturally important Wimmera River, in a community of approximately 500 residents. Most students that attend our school live locally and tend to walk or ride to school. JPS recently acquired a bus and now operates a bus service for eight students outside the town zone.

The Principal, Craig Donahoo, commenced his role in May 2021. Since then, considerable work been undertaken to improve relational trust across the whole school community. Jeparit Primary School enjoys the confidence of the school community. Feedback is generally very positive, as is the general sentiment in the wider community. Parents co-operate with teaches to advance student learning and are willing volunteers when needed.

22 students are currently split between a grades F-2 and grades 3-6 class. The school is lucky to have a number of skilled staff delivering wellbeing and learning outcomes for students.  Our grades F-2 teacher who began their role in the school in June 2021, also runs the school's Art program, Indonesian language program, kitchen garden and cooking program. The Indonesian Language Program is further enhanced by weekly online instruction from a native Indonesian speaker, Ibu Yanti.

The current principal works 2 days as the grades 3-6 classroom teacher and grades F-2 music. For the remaining 2 days, another classroom teacher works with the grades 3-6 class as well as being a specialist in science and physical education.

We have a highly experienced teacher, currently employed two days per week as part of DET's Tutor Learning Initiative. They work in class with teachers for 1 day per week and during other times develops high quality curriculum materials for our classes.

Our Business Manager works 3 days per week and undertake a number of roles in the school. These include facilities management, OHS implementation and taking small groups of students for Sounds-Write phonics instruction.

During 2022, JPS applied for funding under the 'Active Schools' grant program. We successfully received a grant of $30,000 for all students to participate in Dance and / or Martial Arts training for a full year. This has been very well received, as it provides much needed activities to students who were either geographically or financially isolated.

JPS is part of a cluster of relatively 'small' schools, who share various sports days, excursions and camps.
